Reportedly, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be doing Rituparno Ghosh Hindi-Bengali bilingual film Devi Chaudhurani, a screen adaption of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s famous Bengali novel of the same name.
Aishwarya had earlier collaborated with the director for Chokher Bali, adapted from Rabindranath Tagore’s Binodini, and Raincoat, inspired by a short story by O Henry. Both the films bagged National Awards, for Best Feature Film in Bengali and Best Feature Film in Hindi, respectively.
Aishwarya confirms the news saying that Rituparno had narrated her the story of Devi Chaudhurani and told her that he wanted to do the project only with Aishwarya. The actress has given a nod to the project, however she informed that presently, Rituparno is busy with his dance drama film,Chitrangada—The Crowning Wish. Rituparno also confirmed the news and insisted that Aishwarya has been busy recently, he also informed that the project will start as soon as she get free from her shooting schedule.
Devi Chaudhurani was first published in 1884 and later was translated into English by Subodh Chunder Mitter. The story revolves around the revolutionary charge by a woman at a time of purdah.
